On March 22,1976 the Department was started by a group of men in the Philadelphia comunity who wanted to lower their Home Owners insurance rates. They heard of a fire truck for sale by the Jonesboro Fire Department and decided to bid on it. They were successful in obtaining the truck and some other equipment to use in starting the Department. The truck (pictured at the left) was a 1951 GMC Pumper. It held 500 gallons of water in the booster tank and had a 500 gpm pump. The truck was later sold after the department bought a 1980 Ford-FMC pumper.
